Differences Between Anne Bradstreet s Burning Of Our...

Throughout this semester we have read various readings, some similar and some widely different but two that struck me as having both similarities and differences are Anne Bradstreet’s â€Å"Burning of Our House† and David Henry Thoreau’s â€Å"Where I Lived, and What I Have Lived For†. Both works have focus on the author’s material possessions and how they feel about them. Bradstreet was a Puritan women and Puritan’s were raised with the belief that you do not need Earthly possessions because ultimately their relationship with God is the most important thing. Puritans are taught from a very young age to wean themselves from their earthly attachments. While reading her she very clearly writes that her possessions were given to her by God and are his to take away, and that she is excepting of that because they are not what matters most. But you get the sense that she struggles with that, as any human being would. Thoreau on the other hand went into the woods to live deliberately, leaving behind his material possessions, as a choice, because he felt people were becoming too caught up in them. Both authors clearly lived in two very different time periods with two different views on their world but they both ultimately have the some of the same thoughts and views on materialism, it’s not the things you have but the life you have. Puritan’s believed that spirituality should come first and Transcendentalist believed that the things you see and hear are what is important, not the things you

This can be seen with the help of the following date evidences: Figure 2: Relationship between population growth and economic growth (Source: Coale Hoover, 2015) Causal Relationships Increase in the investment of a country leads to increase in the productive activities of the country itself which in turn is positively reflected in the economic growth of the country. Conversely, higher economic growth also leads to increase in the investment capabilities of the country. Increase in the population growth leads to increase in the human factors of production (labor and human capital) which in turn contributes positively to the economic growth of the same. Does God Exist Essay Example

Does God Exist? Essay The question Does God exist? Is an extremely expansive and immense topic that has been debated for centuries. This question has plagued mankind since we began to think logically. It is difficult to say whether there may or may not be a god, or even many gods, as we have limited knowledge regarding this issue. We currently even question Gods existence today, however the answer can never certainly and truly be found. There is evidence supporting his existence, but there is also evidence suggesting that his existence is not genuine. The famous teleological and ontological horses both link to each other for this topic, as they are both recognized for agreeing through reason that God exists, however this Is opposed with the situation that they are based on common sense, but not fact, a belief that Descartes would agree with. The argument about Gods possible existence also leads many to believe that we created this figure to look to for guidance, to have someone to lead us, and also to blame. Both teleological and ontological arguments stand on reason alone. The ontological argument argues that since existence Is possible, to exist Is greater Han to not exist, thus God must exist. This concept portrays that someone declaring that God does not exist is contradicting, as according to this argument this would mean that something greater would have to exist, which Is not possible because you cannot have something greater than that which no greater can be formed. The teleological argument debates that it takes a designer to have a design, and in this case, the designer is God. Every life form on Earth Is highly complex, such as a strand of DNA, intonating all programming for our entire bodies to function properly. Due to this theory, it cannot be a coincidence, as the chance of this randomly occurring is beyond imagination. Someone with an intention had to have existed to purposefully create such complex things. These philosophical hypothesis prove to an extent, that there Is a God-Like figure out there. These arguments however, are both cemented by reason and common sense but not fact, which challenges the core thinking of what they both suggest. This interestingly links to Descartes, who believed hat there is more truth In intellect, rather than your common sense. Descartes viewed God as a perfect being. In order for people to have flaws and Imperfection, there must be an example of perfect flawlessness. Hence God exists because he is the representation of perfection in this theory. He famously states Who keeps me in existence? If owe it to myself, I would have given to me all sorts of perfections Yet, evidently I am not perfect. By this, Descartes Is questioning who keeps him In existence. He states that If t was himself, he would have granted himself perfection, et he is obviously not perfect, proving in his philosophy that a higher being must exist, higher than human beings to grant and model perfection, portraying his view on the existence of God. Descartes believed that we as humans need a figure to look up to as an example and a leader. Our world revolves around leadership. From leading a choir in a concert, to prime Minster, our world would run into chaos without it. God is a being of hope and a perfect figure to look up to for many. He is an pieces many peoples worlds together through religion, as that is what they choose to Ochs their life on and because of this, he gives people an idea of purpose in their lives. According to Plats theory of forms, for all things that exist (e. Emotions, physical objects) in our physical world, there is an ultimate or perfect form of it in another dimension, which in this case would be God. He exists in our beliefs and imaginations because he is a leader to us, meaning that God does exist, simply not in this dimension. This ancient debate has evidence reinforcing that God is real, but is also balanced out by the evidence and opinions retaliating against this. People form their own opinions about this query by using their own Judgment and common sense, which is why the teleological and ontological argument applies so efficiently to this question. They both examine and verify rationally that God is genuine as a real being. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Descartes relied more on logic to consolidate his belief. He believed that if people were to have flaws and imperfections, we need an example of perfection to form this belief of imperfection, which is God. In a sense, God is a guide for us to understand our faults and blemishes. This points to Plats theory of forms, which also proves Gods existence in his concept. Because we have imagined, and invented this idea of God, he is then certainly real in another dimension. Although these prove Gods existence, they only prove his existence in their philosophy and beliefs, and because of this, it can never truly be discovered if God is real or not, due to our insufficient knowledge about him.

buy custom U.S. Education essay The US economy has reached the most precarious scenario ever, since the 1930s Great Depression. A deficit in the balance-of-payments, deficit in the current and capital account and an astounding negative balance of trade, have sounded the alarm on the economys vulnerability. The slow down started in 2007 and then attained a significant decline after the real-estate slump and problems with financial institutions. By December 2007, US government had officially conceded that the economy had entered a great recession. It has become increasingly important for the government to bail out major financial institutions to protect the American citizens. Such bailouts have been to the tune of half a trillion US dollars. While the government gambles with solutions of revitalizing the economy, there are other pressing issues at hand. One of these issues is the overdue education reform. Some schools of thought believe that education reforms are more urgent and significant to the future of America than even health reforms. Such lucid comments accrue from the understanding of the failures of the K-12 education system. Majority of scholars and the elite spectrum of education experts in the US feel and express vivid reservations on the effectiveness of the K-12 education. There is a widespread belief that the US ought to reform the way it train its young. This mandate seems dear to the incumbent administration, with president Obama taking the lead in advocating for reforms in Americas public schools. However, the Obama administration is mainly focusing on pre-school programs, hiring and compensating effective teachers, state standardization, and the introduction of numerous charter schools. The key things being left out and what experts feel must also be addressed with urgency is the curriculum, modes of teaching and training innovation and creativity. Nevertheless, let us review the K-12 education system more critically and objectively appreciate its status. We will also try to compare this with the education system in China. Personal and professional development - Essay Example Early warning scoring was immediately undertaken to determine the severity of the condition based on observable symptoms. The patient scored 6 on the EWS and the attending physicians immediately prescribed a salbultamol nebulizer and oxygen therapy. After 15 minutes, based on clinical observation, the patient’s condition improved. His respiratory rate was lowered to 23 and heart rate at 123 bpm. However, his blood pressure dropped further to 95/55mmHg. Despite exhibiting signs of improvement, the patient’s EWS rose to 8 and contravened the clinical observations. The intensive care specialist was immediately called in to intervene. In the case described above, there was a need to develop reflective practice in nursing care delivery especially in emergency cases. Relying on observable symptoms may not be enough to make a correct diagnosis and decision. The intent of this discourse is to demonstrate the effective use of reflective model framework to execute the Greenwood’s Level 2 (2002) framework for reflection. Greenwood’s (2002) framework for reflection is composed of six stages. The first involves a description in detail of the event. The second stage includes how assumptions, beliefs, values and attitudes of an individual are reflected in his/her actions. Stage three is evaluation. The nursing care practitioner evaluates if the measures employed are consistent with nursing care delivery standards. Stage four is analysis of the event. This involves more detailed inquiry on the items evaluated in the previous stage on which aspect of nursing-related theories were relevant in the choice of action taken. Stage five is synthesis. At this stage, the individual already developed his own insights. The nursing practitioner is also able to view the situation at all angles. It is also at this stage that the individual developed alternatives to the actions undertaken previously to improve outcomes. Finally, the nursing

Globalization and Labor Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Globalization and Labor Issues - Essay Example On the other end, the developing world has made considerable improvement in cutting its poverty rate by a half. According to the most recent statistics, 21% of individuals living in the developing nations lived below or at $1.25 per day. That is down from 43% in 1990 and 52% in the year 1981. This is an indication that 1.22 billion individuals lived on less than $1.25 each day in 2010, in comparison to 1.91 billion in 1990, and approximately 1.94 billion people in 1981. However, there is a widening gap between the poor and the rich, and those who are capable of accessing opportunities. From the information, it is clear that the developing world is doing a considerable job in reducing its poverty line2. In regards to GDP, it does not mean that a nation with a good GDP have the best living standards. For instance, there are individuals living in poverty in the United States and other nations of the world including both the developed and developing nations. There is a huge deal of inconsistency among the areas of the world which concern with trends in unemployment. In addition, there is a general division between developing and developed regions. For instance, unemployment rates in the European Union region and Developed Economies remain above the historical levels (8.6% in 2012 compared to an average of 6.9% between 1998 and 2007). On the other hand, in developing nations, unemployment rates are below average compared to the decade before the crisis. The main reason for this divide is that the developing economies have considerably outdone developed economies in period of recovery in terms of their economic growth3. There is proof that stimulus packages implemented in the developing nations to mitigate the effects of the crisis were directed towards addressing weaknesses of the labor market. In contrast, the limited effectiveness of monetary and fiscal measures
